GI status granted to Scotch whisky
 Geographical Indication (GI) granted by the Indian government to Scotch whisky producers will enable genuine producers in Scotland to market their produce and effectively counter competition from counterfeit whisky
 
Diageo bets on luxury spirits market
 Estimates by Diageo, Asia-Pacific indicate that Indian luxury spirits market is expected to reach Stg P 74 m by 2015, the Asia - Pacific Region as a whole is expected to contribute 20 % of Diageo,s world-wide revenues.
Diageo's thrust in the luxury brands would be on Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Ciroc, Ketel and Talisker.
 
Diageo parts company with distributor
 The 17 year old distribution arrangement between Diageo and the local distributor Sun Tan Trading Company owned by Kilachands has fallen apart after both Diageo and Sun Tan were under a Customs scanner for duty evasion. Out of the 60,000 licensed alcohol outlets Diageo has a presence in 43,000 outlets

Delhi increases tax on liquor
 With the excise duty coming into force in July 2011, the imported liquor already under heavy burden has been effectively raised by another 10 %. Excise duties on wines now have an additional increase of 5%.
 
Four firms to import liquor in Delhi
 The Delhi government has short listed 3 new firms apart from Delhi State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) Liquor the other 3 organisations are DSIIDC Energy, DSIIDC Maintenance and DSIIDC Impex to import liquor from reputed brands

Garuda and Sri Lankan Airlines to connect more places in India
 With the signing of the bilateral agreement this year Garuda Indonesia's official carrier would operate in 5 metros and 15 other major cities in the country.

 Sri Lankan Airlines with 50 flights a week to various Indian cities, now plans to increase the number of flights to 57 flights by December 2011.
 
Airports attract lifestyle brands
 Some of the major brands like Sworovski India, WH Smith prefer retailing at Delhi's T3 as airports are becoming one of the most promising areas for retailing lifestyle brands. With the modernization of Kolkata and Chennai airports more choice of high end retailing open up.
 
GMR's Hyderabad Airport makes profit
 GMR which operates Delhi, Istanbul and Hyderabad has recently won the contract for Male airport. Hyderabad airport has shown a marginal profit of Rs 2 crores due partially to increase in user development fee.
 
BIAL to expand, DIAL increases revenues manifold and AAI goes public
 Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) is to expand Terminal 1, the work is to be completed within 18 months.

 Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has seen an increase of 300% on non-aero revenues during the past 5 years

 Delhi Duty Free is to increase its portfolio from liquor and tobacco to fashion items to cash in on demand for luxury items. Indian luxury market forms 2% of the global share, with no Customs duties at the airside; fashion products become cheaper by 20 – 40%.

 Airport Authority of India (AAI) with an asset value of Rs 20,000 crores which AAI expects to monetize assets to Rs.80, 000 crores. AAI has already completed development of 22 airports another 13 are on the anvil. New terminal in Chandigarh with an area of 12,150 sq mt is bound to attract more airlines and the modernized airport in Kolkata scheduled to open in March 2012 is expected to double from the present capacity. Another important aspect is the tremendous increase in air traffic in Indian domestic passenger traffic. In April 2011 passenger traffic stands at 460,000 pax a 25.6% growth y-o-y.
 
Airlines seek non-metro cities, low cost carriers offers and Dubai
 Airlines are now looking at operating in non-metros like Delhi or Mumba. Tier 11 cities Puducherry, Coimbatore, Kochi or Pune offer profitable alternatives to smaller aircraft. Off the ground would be the Chennai – Puducherry link by Spicejet with daily flights from December. Domestic airlines are to operate 30% more flights from October 2011

 The low cost carriers are offering huge discounts to lure traffic on overseas flights this is bound to affect the full service carriers. Indigo is offering promotional fares which are even 30% less than low cost carriers operating from India on Delhi to Dubai, Bangkok and Singapore

 Dubai has emerged as a major aviation hub in the region putting paid to India's aspirations as an important player. Dubai handled 47 million passengers in 2010 compared to Indian airports that are expected to handle 50 million passengers by 2015
 
Delhi Metro increases frequency
 The much touted Delhi Metro is to run its operation from the heart of the city – Connaught Place to Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport every 15 minutes. This public – private partnership between the government and India's Reliance group was opened to the public in February 2011.This has cut down travel time from 40 minutes to 20 minutes from the city to the airport, the services operate between 7 am till 11 pm

    WINE GROWERS APPROACH CONSUL-GENERAL FOR MONTENEGRO
 With HE Dr.Janice Darbari actively promoting Montenegro, there has been a sudden spurt of interest from wine growers in India interested in joint collaboration with their counter parts-the wine makers in Montenegro Chris Ruthnaswamy, former Vice-President, India Tourism Development Corporation,(a Government of India undertaking) with more than 20 years experience in the wine trade met HE Consul-General for Montenegro recently with proposal for further development of wine collaboration between Montenegro and Indian wine makers"  
 

 The 1st ever exposure of Romanian wines took place in April 2010 at the residence of the Ambassador Her Excellency Valerica Epure, With the active encouragement of the Ambassador wines from major vineyards like Mufatlar, Cotnari and Halewood were on display and tasted by some of the major importers, press and trade journals and wine connoisseurs, who appreciated the quality of the wines The event was organised jointly by the Embassy of Romania in India and Ruthnaswamy & Associates"
